UH grad Bruce Lau now sculpts collectibles.
Lau, considered to be one of the top sculptors in the collectibles industry, will talk about his Disney career, demonstrate his techniques and autograph "Certificates of Authenticity" that accompany the Disney sculptures, which range in price from $55 to more than $400.
Born and raised in Pearl City, Lau is a University of Hawaii graduate. He also attended the California Institute of the Arts, where he experimented in making 8 mm films with characters fashioned from pipe cleaners, clay and wood.
He began his professional career developing animation and live-action props for the entertainment industry, primarily television, before shifting to designing models for film, television and theme park attractions.
Kris Kringle's Den is in the Ward Warehouse, at 1050 Ala Moana Blvd. Also appearing will be Craig Hodgkins, communications manager for Walt Disney Classics, who will discuss Disney art and collectibles from noon to 1 p.m. Call 591-8844 for more information.

In the magazine's first study to discover the best places to live as a teen-ager, Honolulu ranks in the Top 10 of 120 major cities nationwide. The other cities were Ann Arbor, Mich.; Billings, Mont.; Boston, Mass.; Boulder, Colo.; Houston, Texas; Montclair, N.J.; New York, N.Y.; San Francisco, Calif.; and Seattle, Wash. There was no numerical ranking of the cities.
The study investigated 30 variables in five broad categories as follows:
Fun stuff to do: Outdoor recreation, concerts, sports
Shopping: Number of bookstores, malls, discount outlets
Low crime rate
Schools: Measuring quality, graduation rate, safety, money spent on each student
Quality of life: Climate, minimum wage, mass transit, access to reproductive health care, divorce rate, quality of library system, gender ratio, curfews, suicide and depression rate.
