make it to Honolulu

European designers have a way with leather, and it's no different with J.P. Tod's, a company with an American-sounding name but roots in the old world.

Although the Della Valle shoe company was founded 75 years ago in Italy by cobbler Filippo Della Valle, it took his grandson Diego Della Valle to build the company's international presence.

Celebrity watchers will note that J.P. Tod's handbags ($700 to $1450) have been spotted on the arms of Salma Hayek, Hillary Clinton, Minnie Driver and Charlize Theron. Fans of J.P. Tod's loafers ($245 to $345) include Kim Basinger, Catherine Deneuve, Harrison Ford, and Pierce Brosnan can be spotted wearing them in "The Thomas Crown Affair."

There will be a preview of the Fall '99 collection of Tod's handbags and women's shoes noon to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday in the Neiman Marcus Level 1 Leather Accessories and Shoe Department. For more information, call 948-7342.

Bobbi Brown national makeup artist Cynde Watson will be demonstrating looks for fall and providing complimentary makeovers from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. in the cosmetics department. Call 948-7580.

St. John Fall and Millennium Trunk Show -- Heather Nowlan will preview the collections from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. in the St. John Shop, Level 2. There will also be informal modeling from noon to 3 p.m.
