Star-BulletinThe Hawaii Visitors & Convention Bureau is working with a Honolulu publishing business, Network Media, to promote Hawaii's tourism and business opportunities in China, Taiwan and Hong Kong.
The company is producing a Chinese-language edition of the HVCB's "Islands of Aloha Travel and Business Planner."
Publisher Ted Sturdivant said the publication will be distributed through HVCB's sales agents in Shanghai and Taipei, by direct mail and bulk shipments to travel agents, through U.S. government offices in Asia, overseas offices of the state Department of Business, Economic Development & Tourism and other outlets. Copies also will be made available in Singapore and Malaysia.
"We're also working with the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade, which has a huge, detailed computer database of businesses in China," Sturdivant said. That organization can use its system to target businesses that Hawaii companies want to reach, he said. CCPIT has 70,000 corporate members in China.
The U.S. Department of Commerce offices in China also have lists of people wanting to do business with American companies, he said. The company plans to print and circulate 20,000 copies for distribution from October through February.
There will be two more 20,000-copy issues next year, one for March-August distribution and the other for September-January.
The business supplement will highlight Hawaii industries that are related to tourism as well as others, with details of such operations as the Foreign Trade Zone and the immigrant investor program that gets residential visas for foreign businesses willing to invest in Hawaii and hire local workers.
