The top-seeded team of Ryan Ideta and Alex Sugai advanced to the championship match of the Kailua Men's Night Doubles tennis tournament by downing No. 4 seeds Dave Andrews and Wei-Yu Su, 6-3, 7-5, last night at the Kailua Racquet Club. Ideta-Sugai team in final
Ideta and Sugai will play for the title tomorrow night against the winner of tonight's other semifinal between the teams of Andrew Csordas-Chris Leong and Stefan Pampulov-Henry Somerville.
Csordas and Leong, seeded second, beat unseeded David Lam and Howard Tacub, 6-4, 3-6, 6-3, last night in a rain-delayed quarterfinal match. Pampulov and Somerville are seeded third.
Vulcans sign two more
Jeff Law, Hawaii-Hilo's second-year basketball coach, recently completed the Vulcans' recruiting class with the signings of 6-foot-7 inside men Rashad Williams and B.J. Rogers.Williams averaged 20 points, 11 rebounds and five blocks for Chaffey (Calif.) College last season. Rogers had 10 points and 10 boards per game for Los Angeles Trade-Technical College.
Earlier UH-Hilo signees were point guard Jason Shumate from Santa Monica (Calif.) College and forwards Kyle Bartholomew from Waiakea High School, Ryan Hogue from Kalaheo High, Ben Addink from Yakima Valley (Wash.) C.C. and Alan Thomas from Los Angeles City College.

Kathy Colin of Kailua and partner Tamara Jenkins of Seattle of the U.S. national canoe/kayak team won the K-2W title yesterday in the Sprint National Championships at Lake Placid, N.Y.The meet is a tune-up for the World Championships at Milan, Italy, later this month.
