He joined the company 10 years ago as a maintenance operator with the synthetic natural gas plant and moved to plant engineer and operations area superintendent in 1992, and then to senior planner in 1996.
De Almeida, a native of Brazil, also was a research associate with the Hawaii Natural Energy Institute and the mechanical engineering department at the University of Hawaii, and a gas turbine field engineer with General Electric Technical Services Co. in Schenectady, N.Y.
He earned a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Miami in Florida and a master's degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Hawaii.
