Leadership parley set

People will gather in Waikiki next week for a three-day conference on building church leadership, but the speakers will all be in Chicago.

Leadership Summit '99, sponsored by Willow Creek Community Church in Illinois, will be broadcast via satellite to the Sheraton-Waikiki Hotel meeting rooms. Honolulu is one of 11 locations where the conference will be presented in the wide-screen format.

The Rev. Wayne Cordeiro, senior pastor of New Hope Christian Fellowship in Honolulu, is one of the speakers at the Chicago conference. Satellite delayed presentation will begin here at 8:30 a.m. Thursday and continue through Saturday. Tickets at $210 may be purchased at the door. Information is available by calling 833-7717.

New Hope Church will sponsor a free worship service at 7 p.m. Wednesday. Mark Mittelberg, co-author of "Becoming a Contagious Christian," will speak.


Haleiwa church luau next week

Liliuokalani Church in Haleiwa will have its annual luau next Saturday with a lineup of entertainment that will include Kawai Cockett, Myra English, Kealoha Kalama, the Opihi Pickers and the Leonani Serenaders.

Food will be served from 1 to 4 p.m. Takeout orders may be picked up between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m.

Tickets at $15 under the tent or $12.50 takeout are available by calling the church, 637-9364.
