American adds daily Honolulu-L.A. flight
American Airlines this weekend will add a daily flight between Honolulu and Los Angeles, bringing its service to two flights a day except on Saturdays, which will have three flights.The company said today that the additional service is part of its buildup on the West Coast.
The airline, the main subsidiary of AMR Corp., will use a 290-seat Douglas DC-10 jet for the added flight. In addition to the expanded Los Angeles service, American will continue its service between Honolulu and San Francisco, as well as Honolulu-Dallas/Fort Worth and Honolulu-Chicago.
The airline also has daily service between Maui and Los Angeles.
Stephanie Welch, American's regional sales manager in Hawaii, said the added service will help bring in more tourists as well as increase convenience for Hawaii residents going to the mainland.
Store-restaurant to join Wailea mall
Tommy Bahama, a 10,000-square-foot clothing store and restaurant combination, has signed on to join the Shops at Wailea, a 15-acre, two-story retail complex due to open next summer at Wailea, Maui.Tommy Bahama, a tropical-themed leisure clothing business, is part of New York-based Viewpoint International, which has similar store-restaurant combinations in resort locations such as Naples and Sarasota, Fla., and Palm Desert and Newport Beach, Calif.
30-year mortgages average 7.7 percent
WASHINGTON -- The average interest rate on 30-year fixed-rate mortgages, which had edged down over the last three weeks, rose to 7.70 percent this week from 7.52 percent last week, according to a weekly survey released today by Freddie Mac, the mortgage company.Fifteen-year mortgages averaged 7.29 percent this week, up from the average of 7.16 percent last week.
One-year, adjustable-rate mortgages averaged an initial rate of 5.99 percent this week, up from 5.97 percent.
