Workers tear down existing parking at the street and mall levels
to make way for a four-story parking structure yesterday. The
bridge that connects Ala Moana to the China House restaurant
parking lot also will be destroyed and won't be rebuilt. The first
phase of the new parking -- from the center's Ewa end to Sears
and Longs -- is 260 stalls and will be completed by spring,
according to mall management. Phase 2, with 210 stalls, from
Long's to the Polo Ralph Lauren shop, will start in the spring
and be completed by the end of next year. The Piikoi
ramp will remain open.
