The road to Williamsport, Pa., begins tomorrow as the Little League Baseball State Tournament for 11-12 year-olds begins at Keolu Field in Kailua. State Little League
play begins tomorrowTomorrow's 2 p.m. opener pits Molokai against Pearl City while Hilo takes on Makakilo-Kapolei at 4 p.m.
Also competing in the six-team tournament are Aiea and Kainalu, which have byes into Saturday's games.
The double-elimination tournament continues through Wednesday's 4 p.m. title game. If a deciding game is needed to determine the championship, that game will be at 4 p.m. Thursday.
The winner will advance to the West regional tournament in San Bernardino, Calif., next month. The West champ goes to the Little League World Series.
Hilo National sweeps Aiea for LL Junior title
Avery Kagawa drove in three runs in the second game as Hilo National completed a 6-2, 5-3 sweep of previously unbeaten Aiea to capture the state Little League Junior title for 13-14 year-olds at Hans L'Orange Park yesterday.Hilo National advances to the Division 1 championship tournament at Port Orchard, Wash.
Kaneohe LL Senior champ
Kaneohe scored the winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning to edge Pearl City, 2-1, for the championship of the Little League Senior (15-16) Tournament Tuesday at Halawa Recreation Center field.Kaneohe advances to the regional tournament in Salem, Ore., starting July 31.
Seki third in Junior golf
Honolulu's Jim Seki Jr. birdied the last three holes yesterday to move into third place in the boys division of the AJGA Ashworth/Golf Design Junior Championship at Coto de Caza, Calif., with a 75-68--143 on the par 72 course.Ron Won of Irvine, Calif., shot a 67 to lead the field at 139.
The 54-hole event ends today.
Island Movers romp
Brandon Chaves went 3-for-3 with a double and home run as the Hawaii Island Movers defeated Capitol Classic, 19-4, in a Summer exhibition baseball game yesterday at Rainbow Stadium.
