Copter traffic to be up for Kaneohe BayFest
Increased helicopter traffic at Marine Corps Base Hawaii and over Kaneohe Bay will usher in BayFest 99 at the base.Helicopter flights will take place from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. tomorrow as the Marine Corps and Navy rehearse for a capabilities display at the annual open house. Search and rescue operations and other activities will be demonstrated at 1 p.m. Saturday.
Straub Hospital slates long-term care forum
Straub Hospital will host a free long-term care forum from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday.Kathy Shahan, social worker, and Jackie Suganuma, case manager, will cover long-term care options for the elderly -- care at home or other alternatives, including care at a nursing home or hospice. Financial issues also will be discussed.
The forum will be in the doctor's dining room, next to the Straub cafe at Straub headquarters, 888 S. King St. For more information, call 522-4575.

Police said four boys from a daycare center broke into and vandalized a Kahala home yesterday.The boys, ages 9 to 11, left their daycare and entered a nearby home near Pahoa Avenue and Moa Street at 2:25 p.m., police said. They reportedly set fire to the couch and punched holes in the walls.
When they returned to the daycare center, they told the other students what they had done, police said.
Police were called and the boys were arrested for first-degree burglary.
Loud stereo drives man to assault, police say
Police yesterday arrested a Hauula man for allegedly assaulting his neighbor because the stereo was too loud.The suspect forced his way into his neighbor's home on the 53-900 block of Kamehameha Highway at 6:20 p.m., police said.
He then reportedly assaulted the neighbor who was sitting in his living room.
3-year-old boy tells mom older boy molested him
Police are investigating the sexual assault of a 3-year-old Ewa Beach boy.The boy told his mother that the suspect, a 13-year-old boy, had sexually assaulted him yesterday, police said.
The teen-ager is being investigated on two counts of first-degree sexual assault.

WAIKOLOA, Hawaii -- Police have identified a Japanese national killed in a two-car accident on Queen Kaahumanu Highway on Monday as Hotoshi Okada, 49, of Waikoloa.
Alleged assault on son leads to drug charges
HILO -- Police charged a Puna man with assault and drug offenses after responding to a call that he beat his 14-year-old son.James Carvalho, 36, of Paradise Park subdivision, was being held in lieu of $17,500 bail. His son was taken to Queen's Hospital, where he was in stable condition.
Police said Carvalho slapped his son, punched him in the face, and kicked him several times in the side.
While investigating the assault, they found numerous marijuana plants on his property.
Teen fleeing police drowned, autopsy shows
HILO -- An autopsy showed a 16-year-old boy who fell over a 50-foot cliff into the Wailuku River on Monday drowned, police said.Police arrived at about 3:30 a.m. to investigate a disturbance at an abandoned radio station building. The victim, Shelton S. Maruyama, was in a group of people who ran in the darkness when police arrived.
