Crew members of the Abracadabra 2000, Hawaii's entry in the
America's Cup Challenger Races, took the boat for a test run
last week. Star-Bulletin photographer Ken Ige captured the crew
in action. For more photos of the Abracadabra 2000 on

The Abracadabra 2000's hull was painted by Wyland.
It would give the state hours of television exposure should
it make the America's Cup finals next year in New Zealand.

in the upcoming Challenger Races, which begin Oct. 18
in waters off Auckland, New Zealand.

Quest for the Cup

The quest for the America's Cup begins in October with a series of Challenger Races.

Fifteen teams from 10 countries will compete in waters off Auckland, New Zealand, for the right to compete against defending champion Team New Zealand.

The finals will be held off Auckland in 2000.

The Abracadabra 2000 is skippered by John Kolius. He is joined by 18 crew members.

Abracadabra 2000, and a second yacht still under construction, are the first Hawaii yachts to challenge for the America's Cup. Waikiki Yacht Club is the team's home club.
