Sunny Garcia and Kalani Robb of Hawaii won second-round matches to advance in the Billabong MSF Pro surf meet at Jeffrey's Bay, South Africa, yesterday.

Garcia defeated Paul Canning of Australia, while Robb beat Guilherme Herdy of Brazil.

Hawaii's Shawn Sutton and Conan Hayes failed to win their first-round heats and will have to compete in Round 2.

In the women's competition, Hawaii's Megan Abubo finished second in her opening heat to advance to Round 3. Rochelle Ballard finished fourth and will have to compete in Round 2.
