Harbor ClassicThe tournament, in its second year, takes place Dec. 21-23 at the Cannon Activities Center in Laie.
Last year's winner, Michigan State, reached the NCAA Final Four last March.
Dorian wins opening heat
Hawaii's Shane Dorian was among the first-round heat winners yesterday during the Billabong/Mitchell Surfing Foundation Pro at Jeffrey's Bay, South Africa.While Dorian advanced to round three, Hawaii's Ross Williams, Shawn Sutton and Sunny Garcia will have to compete in the second round after failing to win their first-round heats.
Only 12 of the 16 first-round heats were completed. Hawaii's Andy Irons, Kalani Robb and Conan Hayes have yet to surf.
Three tied at The Links
Beau Yokomoto, Ben Hongo and Brian Stock each shot a 1-over 73 to share the lead after the first round of the Aloha Section PGA Club Professional Championship at The Links at Kuilima.Nine others are within four strokes of the leaders. The tournament concludes today.
USO 10K/5K race-walk
The USO 10K/5K race-walk is a chance for runners to warm up for the Honolulu Marathon.The race, Aug. 15 at Hickam Air Force Base, is one week before the start of the Honolulu Marathon preparation series, which is sponsored by the Mid-Pacific Road Runners Club and begin with a 15K race Aug. 22, also at Hickam.
Those participating in the race will be eligible for a vacation for two in Tahiti and other prizes.
The entry fee is $18 until July 31 and $25 for entries received Aug. 1-10.

Paddlers to Australia
Team Hawaii/Ocean Club will represent Hawaii's outrigger canoe paddlers this weekend in Hamilton Island, Australia.The all-woman team of Traci Phillips, Donna Kahakui, Makanani Wong, Cindy Nash, Lisa Livingston, Libby Fulk, Maile Chong, Denise Darvel-Chang, Gail Kaaialii and Carol Jaxon will compete in three days of races from July 3-5.
The Hamilton Island races are considered the premiere outrigger canoe races in Australia, with each 10-women team competing for a $6,000 cash prize in the final 55-kilometer long-distance race.
Interisland canoe race
Ten sailing canoes representing all the Hawaiian Islands will race from Maui to Molokai to Kailua on Sunday.The race, the fourth of a 10-race series put on by the Hawaiian Sailing Canoe Association , is expected to end at 3:30 p.m. on the beach in front of L'Orange Street in Kailua.
Strength training at UH
The University of Hawaii will be conducting a series of strength conditioning training clinics under the guidance of UH strength and conditioning coach Tommy Heffernan.The clinics are open to boys and girls ages 15 and older, parents and coaches.
Strength training clinics will be divided into three sports with a volleyball clinic scheduled for July 5, 7, and 9, a football clinic July 12-23, and a baseball clinic on July 26, 28, 30.
Two separate sessions will be conducted per day and a fee of $75 is required to reserve a space.

Murata is Dana's MVP
Mid-Pacific Institute alumnus Kyle Murata was named most valuable player of the Dana College (Neb.) baseball team at the school's Spring Athletic Banquet.Murata, a business administration major, is the son of Kenneth and Joyce Murata of Honolulu.
Pua Melia Women
The Pua Melia annual golf tournament will be held July 22-23 at the Olomana Golf Links with a 7:30 a.m. shotgun start.There will be five flights from championship, A through D, with prizes awarded for low gross and low net.
Deadline is July 6 for the first 130 entries. Fee is $120.
