Look out, motorists, the Fourth of July weekend means fireworks, parades and traffic ... and more traffic.

Police expect the traffic near Ala Moana Center and Ala Moana Beach to be as congested as last year.

"An estimated 40,000 to 60,000 people came out last year," said Honolulu police Maj. Henry Lau.

Police plan to control traffic with 70 officers starting at 4:30 a.m. The officers will try to keep Piikoi Street, Ward Avenue and Nimitz Highway flowing.

People should expect long delays but should be patient so that everyone can go home safely, Lau said.

No parking will be allowed Sunday from 5 to 11 p.m. on Keeaumoku Street, Koko Head side, from Kapiolani Boulevard to King Street.

From 4 a.m. to 11 p.m., parking will be not allowed on Ala Moana Boulevard, makai side from the bus stop to Atkinson Drive, and from the Ewa entrance to the bus stop.

On Ala Moana Park Drive, the keyhole and makai-side first semicircle and the Magic Isle parking lot, Koko Head side, will be tow-away zones.

When the Ala Moana Center lot is filled, police will barricade the driveways and let exiting traffic out onto Ala Moana Boulevard, permitting only right turns.

For motorists, other areas of concern are:

Bullet Roadblocks: They will be set up throughout the island starting July 2 from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m.

Bullet ZipLane: It will be closed during the weekend. Holiday schedules will be in effect for parking and traffic on Monday, July 5.

Bullet Kailua fireworks: Parking will be prohibited starting at 5 p.m. Sunday on Kailua Road from Hahani Street to Kalaheo Avenue; Kalaheo Avenue from Kailua to Lihiwai roads; the traffic island at the junction of Kalaheo Avenue and Kailua Road; Makalii Place, makai side between Lihiwai Road and end; Kawailoa Road from Lihiwai Road to Alala Road and mauka side between Alala Road and end; Pauahilani Way, makai side between Pauahilani Place and end; Kaneapu Place, makai side between Alala Road and end.

Prohibited streets include: Aalapapa Drive, mauka side between Mokulua and Lanipo drives; Mokulua Drive from Lanikai Lookout Point and Aalapapa Drive and makai side between the north and south intersection of Aalapapa Drive along the bike path; Kaelepulu Drive on the Kaneohe Base side between Aalapapa Drive and Mid-Pacific Country Club entrance; Mokumanu Drive on the Kaneohe Base side between Aalapapa and Mokulua drives; Koohoo Street, makai side between Aalapapa Drive and end.

Bullet Kailua Parade: The parade next Monday starts at 10 a.m. on Omao Street, then moves down Kainalu Drive to Kailua Intermediate. There will be no parking after 6:30 a.m. on Kainalu Drive between Kainui Drive and Kailua Road and on Kuulei Road between Malunui and Kalaheo avenues. From 9 a.m., Kaha, Pukoa, Uilama, Ainomi, Omao and Kalama streets, and Kainalu Drive from Kainui Drive to Omao Street will be closed. The parade route will also be closed at 9:45 a.m.
