Doing double duty at two Maui hotels

Matthew Hart will supervise operations of the Kapalua Bay Hotel and The Westin Maui for Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide Inc.

Starwood owns and manages the 761-room Westin Maui and manages the 200-room Kapalua Bay Hotel for owner YCP Kapalua Operators Inc.

Hart said the Westin Maui will spend $25 million in the next two years to renovate rooms and public areas. The Kapalua Bay Hotel has spent $20 million on guest rooms, health club and its reception area and will spend $4 million on lobby changes. "I want to take advantage of the North America demand for the neighbor islands by repositioning the Westin Maui through renovation and tapping into the Starwood marketing and distribution system," Hart said.

He has 19 years in resorts and was operation manager at the Westin St. Francis in San Francisco. Hart also worked at hotels in Vail, Colorado and on Oahu. He earned a bachelor's degree in fine arts with honors from Bowdoin College in Maine.
