Mets catcher on a streak

UH's Corey Miller turns pro

New York Mets catcher Mike Piazza extended his hitting streak to 19 games in a 5-2 win over Cincinnati.

Hawaii's Benny Agbayani was hitless in four plate appearances, striking out once and grounding into a double-play.

UH's Corey Miller turns pro University of Hawaii junior Corey Miller has turned pro. Rod Whitfield, Miller's stepfather, said Miller has signed a free-agent baseball contract as a pitcher with the Oakland Athletics. Miller primarily played shortstop for the Rainbows. But late this past season, he pitched in relief four times, earning a 1-0 record and one save, with a 1.29 ERA. Miller will play with Oakland's Arizona League rookie team in the Phoenix area.
