Bobby Enriquez, unique
pianist, died 3 years ago

Question: Whatever happened to piano player Bobby Enriquez?

Answer: Bobby Enriquez was a "one-of-a-kind piano player," singer Jimmy Borges said. Enriquez died three years ago in Stayton, Ore.

Enriquez, once a good golfer, is interred in Colma, Calif., at Olivet Memorial Park, which overlooks a golf course.

Enriquez, who was from Mindanao, the Philippines, performed with many local groups in the '60s and '70s before relocating to the East Coast.

"He toured for a while with Dizzy Gillespie," Borges said. "Bobby was a very, very flashy player, but he also had content in the sense that he played with substance.

"Bobby was the fastest piano player I've ever heard in my life. He never studied music but used techniques other piano players would never consider using."

Borges, who knew Enriquez for more than 25 years, recalls that unlike most pianists who run the keys using fingers, Enriquez used the heel of his right hand to do it.

"He'd do the same thing and go right into a chord," Borges said.
