Pop singer Britney Spears, who milk advertisers deemed
wholesome enough to appear in their ads, will be a judge
in Tommy Hilfiger's national search for the "All American Girl."
The search for girls ages 6 to 12 (as of April 6, 1999), celebrates the designer's collection for girls sizes 4 to 16, which is set for a fall launch. In October, Hilfiger and celebrity judges Rebecca Romijn-Stamos and Britney Spears, will choose 51 finalists from each state and the District of Columbia.
The local search will take place 4 to 6 p.m. June 22 at the Hyatt Regency Waikiki. Sign up at the event. Call 1-(888)-GO-HILFIGER or 1-(888)-464-4534 for more information.
Finalists will receive a $3,000 U.S. Savings Bond to be used for their college education, a weekend trip to New York City with parents or guardians, an opportunity to model in the Tommy Hilfiger All-American Girl Fashion Show, and a $250 wardrobe from the new girls collection.
Finalists will be chosen based on how well they personify the all-American spirit and energy for which the designer is known. All contestants will be asked to walk down a runway, have their photo taken and provide a statement on what they like best about America.
The nationwide search began June 1 in Tulsa, Okla., and will end Sept. 25 in New York City.

Author David Gulko offers much more than a picture book for the identification of reef flora and fauna. But he uses photographs and illustrations liberally to explain everything from the different types of reefs to the effects of mankind on these ecosystems.
The book is organized as a teaching text, but designed to appeal to everyone from the recreational diver to the aquatic biologist.
Gulko is a coral reef biologist for the state Department of Land and Natural Resources. He helps manage Hawaii's 420,000 acres of coral habitat.
