By Cliff Wassmann, special to the Star-Bulletin
The giant, carved-stone heads called "moai" stand silent
sentinel on Rapa Nui, or Easter Island.

Part II:
Hokule‘a’s fantastic voyage

They will set sail any day now, bound for the most isolated inhabited island in the world. With only the stars and other signs of nature to guide them, crew members of the voyaging canoe Hokule'a will make for Rapa Nui, land of the giant stone moai. The voyage will complete the triangle of ancient migration routes and bring to the mysterious island what many hope will be a renaissance of Polynesian culture and pride. Rapa Nui awaits.
