Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide Inc. today named Bob Moore, who two years ago almost became head of the Hawaii Visitors & Convention Bureau, as senior vice president of sales and marketing for Starwood's North American division, which includes Hawaii.

Moore's 30 years in tourism included a long career with Hilton Hotels Corp., including a Hawaii stint in the 1970s. He left Hilton in Hawaii to become president of a local tour business, Hawaiian Adventure Tours, but was back with Hilton from 1981 to 1984.

He has been executive vice president of sales and marketing at the Los Angeles Convention & Visitors Bureau since 1986.

Moore rejected a 1997 offer to head the HVCB because, he said, its board would not give him enough freedom to act. His industry activities include the current board chairmanship of Meetings Professionals International.

In his new job, Moore will oversee sales for more than 450 hotels in the continental United States, Canada, the Caribbean and Hawaii.
