Sungirl Sunscreen
Sungirl Sunscreen's glittery sheen might
tempt teens into protecting their skin.

New sunscreen
gives bodies
that sparkly glow

In the "why didn't anyone think of this before" department, the California-based company Natural Desires has introduced Sungirl Sunscreen with glitter.

Just like the old grated zucchini and carrot in the cake, or minced bell pepper in the meatloaf trick that parents pull on kids to get them to eat what's good for them, the glittery product may be just the thing to get teens to protect their skin.

Taking a cue from makeup trends, the sunscreen offers yet another form of body shine, in fruity colors and tropical scents.

The sunscreen was used to give models such as Rebecca Romijn-Stamos an extra glow in last fall's Sports Illustrated's swimsuit issue.

Sungirl is available in four formulas: Velvet Sheen Sunblock SPF 20 with Glitter, Oil-Free Sunscreen SPF 10 with Glitter, Oil-Free Deep-Tanning Gel SPF 3 with Glitter and Ultra-Waterproof Sunblock SPF 30 with Glitter for Kids.

The two sunblocks contain Parsol 1789, a newly FDA-approved ingredient tha provides broad-spectrum UVA protection.

The product is available locally at Waikiki Trader in the International Market Place, 2330 Kalakaua Ave. The price is $15.

Sungirl Sunscreen can also be ordered through the Internet at www.cyberspects.com. The price is $9.99 per 2.2 ounce tube, but you'll also pay a minimum of $2 for shipping.

J.C. Penney Co.
Get help finding the perfect fit.

Size, style foundations for fitting

Getting a good bra fit can be a bust. Even though women tend to put one on most days, lingerie experts say most women don't know how to adjust them to fit.

So it's a good thing JC Penney is hosting its national Special Bra Fit Event here next week.

One of the problems of achieving proper fit is women's bodies change over time -- with weight fluctuations, by having children, by going through menopause -- yet throughout, women assume their bra size has remained the same since they were 20.

Figuring size is a snap, but it takes more ingenuity to find that perfect-fitting bra. Fitters will be on hand at the Ala Moana and Pearlridge stores Monday through Thursday to share their know-how and lend support. No appointment is necessary.

Ala Moana store event hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday, Tuesday and Thursday; and 2 to 8 p.m. Wednesday. Call 946-8068.

The Pearlridge store will have trained fitters during regular store hours on the four days. Call 488-0961.

Drop by and you may be able to say goodbye to pesky slipping shoulder straps.

Tour remote Waimanu

Revisit Waimanu Valley on "Celebrate Our Heritage" at 7 p.m. Sunday on KHET/PBS. The series rebroadcasts "Waimanu," a 1992 documentary on the pristine wilderness of the Big Island valley.

The film examines how the establishment of the National Estuarine Research Reserve helped to preserve Waimanu and looks at the geological, environmental and cultural background of the valley.

Entry to the valley is normally by a grueling, 7-mile trail from neighboring Waipio Valley, but the filmmakers were given permission by the Department of Land and Natural Resources to use helicopters.
