Air Force padded the totals
Star-BulletinThe Hawaii baseball team set or tied 26 game, single-season and career records this past season.
One game, the 34-11 win over Air Force April 8, accounted for many of the new marks. The Rainbows set single-game records for most runs (34), most hits (35), most total bases (57), most RBIs (31) and most errors in an inning (4) and tied the mark for most home runs (5).
Also in that game, Michael Dartt set records for most errors in an inning (3), most runs scored (7), most hits (6) and tied Scooter Martines for most at-bats (8).
UH tied the record for most times hit by a pitch in a game (6 vs. St. Mary's, Feb. 14) and set records for most times hit by a pitch, season (79), most sacrifices in a game (5 vs. Wichita State, Feb. 20), most sacrifices, season (62), most relief appearances (156), most appearances, game (8, twice) and most appearances, season (213).
Jamie Aloy and Corey Miller each had three doubles in a game to tie a record. Miller also tied the record for triples (2) and sacrifices (2) in a game.
Troy Yoshimasu's winning percentage (1.000 with his 6-0 record) tied a season mark and his four career balks tied a record.
Dartt tops the list for sacrifices in a season (21) and career (40).
NEW PLAYERS
Head coach Les Murakami has announced the signing of three more players for the 2000 season. The Rainbows now have 10 new players in the fold for next season.The latest additions are Shane Victorino, a shortstop/center fielder from St. Anthony's on Maui; catcher/third baseman Chad Boudon from Seattle, and right-handed pitcher Tom Ramon from Blinn Junior College in Brenham, Texas.
Victorino, the champion in the 100-, 200- and 400-meter dashes at the recent Hawaii High School Athletic Association state meet, hit .458 and had an on-base percentage of .650 this past season. He is a four-time Maui Interscholastic League baseball all-star. The 5-foot-9, 160-pounder also played football and soccer.
Boudon, 6-2, 210-pounds, hit .445 his senior year, was an all-league selection three years and runs the 60-yard dash in seven seconds flat.
Ramon, a 5-10, 185 pounder, was 6-4 with a 4.69 earned run average this past season. He had four complete games and pitched a no-hitter. In two seasons at Blinn, he struck out 91 and walked 47 in 115.1 innings.
Four of the new players are from Hawaii, six from the mainland.
