Wahine fall to Huskies
Staff and wire reportsSEATTLE -- Washington blanked Hawaii, 3-0, yesterday to win its fourth consecutive trip to the Women's College World Series.
The Huskies (48-17) won all three of their games in the double-elimination NCAA Division I Regional Three. A Wahine win would have forced a second and deciding championship game.
Shannon Walsh drove in all three of Washington's runs with a two-run homer in the fifth inning and an RBI single in the sixth.
Jennifer Spediacci (21-8) went the distance for Washington, giving up just one hit and no walks, while striking out 10.
"I knew she was going to be tough," Hawaii head coach Bob Coolen said of Spediacci. "To come out today and strike out the first three batters set the tone for them. She was really on her game today."
Dana Degen singled in the fourth inning for Hawaii (35-23).
Three Wahine -- Joyce Lum, Melissa McGie and Janelle Gonzales -- were named to the all-regional team.
