Helping diversify Maui's economy

Jeanne Unemori Skog will lead the Maui Economic Development Board Inc. in efforts for a diversified economy. This includes the "Economic Literacy" program for youth and adults; "Women in Technology," a program to prepare women for careers in technology; and "Maui Talks," a radio program to stimulate discussion of Maui economic issues.

"I am particularly pleased that I can contribute to the community that I was raised in," Skog said.

She is a 14-year employee of the Maui board, starting as executive assistant to the board's first president, Don Malcolm. She later moved up to corporate secretary, vice president and, in 1997, to senior vice president.

Skog serves on several task forces for Kihei upcountry highways, for Lahaina and Kahului harbors and for efforts to develop a charter school at the Maui Research and Technology Park.

Skog earned a bachelor's degree in English from the College of St. Catherine in St. Paul, Minn.
