Iz album highlights
Na Hoku awards Sunday

The ghost of Iz will be conjured up Sunday night at the 22nd Annual Na Hoku Hanohano Awards.

The late Israel Kamaka-wiwo'ole is up for album of the year for "Iz in Concert -- The Man and His Music."

The album comprises previously unreleased concert recordings of Iz, made between 1993 and his death in 1997. Iz and the album are also up for male vocalist of the year, island contemporary album of the year, graphics and engineering; for a total of five nominations.

The Brothers Cazimero also are up for five awards, including album of the year for "Destination Paradise." The only other artists to capture as many nominations were Amy Hanaiali'i and Willie K, whose "Hanaiali'i" is up for album of the year.

Other album of the year nominations went to Kekuhi Kanahele for "Kekuhi," and Pure Heart for "Pure Heart."

Winners are chosen by members of the Hawaii Academy of Recording Arts.

Local artists scheduled to perform at the awards ceremony include Pure Heart, BB Shawn, Darren Benitez, and Chant.

KHNL will present live coverage of the event beginning at 8 p.m. The program will be rebroadcast May 29 at 10:30 p.m.
