Home on the Web
For some, there is just never too much sumo -- so here is a Web site that is all-sumo-all-the-time. Just in time
for the grand tourney,
its hula.net/sumoStomp on over to http://hula.net/sumo for daily reports from the Summer Grand Sumo Tournament now going on in Tokyo.
The site is constructed by Keith Haugen, a former Star-Bulletin reporter and longtime Hawaiian musician who is also a knowledgeable sumo fan. The results are big sporting news for Hawaii as one Hawaii-born wrestler, Akebono, fights to stay in the sport as a top champion while another, Musashimaru, is up for promotion to the top ranks.
In between the action, Haugen has a first-rate analysis of the matches and provides features on the history of the sport, plus even recipes for chankonabe, the protein-rich stew that help wrestlers keep the weight on.
"Home on the Web" is a weekly Friday feature of the Star-Bulletin.
