Liberty House fashion series for petite women.

Petite fashion
is a big deal

For the approximately 55 percent of American women who are considered "petite" (5-foot-4 or under), solving the proportion part of the fashion equation can be a tall order.

Liberty House stores will host a series of fashion events for petite women from June 23 to 26. They are also searching for petite models to appear at a Pearlridge fashion show June 26.

Petite specialist Tori Hartman, who stands at 5-foot-3, will consult with customers to help them make more of their personal style. Hartman became one of the first petite models in the early '80s, when Liz Claiborne launched her petite line of clothing. Hartman is also the co-author of "Specialty Modeling" and wrote "Fabulous You! Unlock Your Personal Style."

Hartman appearances and informal fashion shows will take place at the following LH stores:

Bullet June 23 -- Downtown, noon
Bullet June 24 -- Ala Moana, 1 p.m.
Bullet June 25 -- Kahala Mall, 1 p.m.
Bullet June 26 -- Pearlridge, 1 p.m.

To sign up to "Be a Petite Model," candidates 5-foot-4 or under, 25 and older and who wear a petite size 4 to 10, may pick up applications at the petite sportswear department of any LH Oahu store beginning Sunday.

Completed applications, along with a recent full-length 3-by-5 color photo (nonreturnable), must be dropped off at the general manager's office of any LH-Oahu store by May 31.

Eight winners will be selected. In addition to appearing in the show, they will receive a $100 petite shopping spree, a haircut and style from the LH Beauty Salon and a cosmetic makeover.

For more information, visit the LH web site at http://www.libertyhouse.com, or call 941-2345.

Coming to the big screen

Two movies begin their Oahu run Friday:

Three Seasons

Rated PG-13

The picture follows interlocking fortunes of five characters in Vietnam: young flower girl Kien An (Nguyen Ngoc Hiep), street urchin Woody (Nguyen Huu Duoc), cyclo driver Hai (Don Duong), ex-Marine Hager (executive producer Harvey Keitel) and self-deluding prostitute Lan (Zoe Bui). Kien takes a job tending and harvesting lotus blossoms at the mysterious teacher Dao's (Manh Cuong) seemingly abandoned temple. Dao, coping with advanced leprosy, asks the curious Kien to become his hands and take down dictated poems.

Midsummer's Night Dream

Rated PG-13

Set in Tuscany at the turn of the 19th century, this is a new spin to Shakespeare's magical comedy. While riding their newly invented bicycles in the woods, Hermia (Anna Friel), Lysander (Dominic West), Demetrius (Christian Bale), and Helena (Calista Flockhart) crash into a secret world of partying fairies, water nymphs and satyrs. When the mischievous Puck (Stanley Tucci) gives them a love potion, they become entangled in a chaotic web of mix-and-match lovers. Meanwhile, a traveling acting ensemble ensconced in the same forest has its play interrupted when the star actor, Bottom (Kevin Kline), becomes a pawn in the love/hate relationship between the King and Queen of the Fairies (Rupert Everett and Michelle Pfeiffer).
