Keeping the Hawaii
Theatre Center vibrant

Leslie Allen will seek development funds for the Hawaii Theatre Center in downtown Honolulu to continue programs like the Hawaiian Friday Nights, with Hawaiian music. The next program on Friday features Hookena.

"It brings a nice touch to the theater and (attracts) people who don't normally come here," Allen said. "The theater is part of a revitalized Chinatown that has created a vibrant night life."

The Hawaii Theatre Center, with 1,400 seats, reopened in 1996 after a major renovation. Financial support comes from the city and state governments, theater memberships, and corporate sponsors.

Allen most recently was director of development for Child & Family Service. She also worked as fund development manager for the Hawaiian Humane Society from 1994-98 and building underwriting and grants director for Hawaii Public Radio from 1990 to 1994. Allen is president-elect for the Aloha chapter of the National Society of Fund Raising Executives.
