The Hawaii women's water polo team beat UC San Diego, 4-2, yesterday but then lost to UCLA, 7-1, and was eliminated from title contention in the Collegiate National Championships at Davis, Calif. UH water polo team
out of title contentionThe Wahine (24-14) were to face UC Santa Barbara today, with the winner advancing to the fifth-place game tomorrow.
In the victory over UC Davis, Lisa De Rossi, Robin Jones, Andrea Nishioka and Michele Wong scored for the Wahine, who were without ailing standout Katie Hill.
Against UCLA, Hawaii was held to Wong's first-quarter goal while seven players scored for the Bruins, who have beaten the Wahine five times this season.
MEXIA LEADS N-M GOLF
Louis Mexia shot a 4-under-par 68 for a one-stroke lead over Russell Ono and Shannon Sibayan after yesterday's opening round of the 47th annual Navy-Marine Invitational golf tournament on the Navy-Marine course. Clayton Gomi was another shot back.Phil Anamizu topped the senior flight with a 69. Wes Naka-bayashi's 73 led the A flight.
BYUH-HPU SHOWDOWN
Top-seeded Brigham Young-Hawaii and No. 2 Hawaii Pacific were to meet today at Laie for the NCAA Division II West Regional men's tennis championship.BYUH (23-6) downed UC Davis, 6-0, and HPU (23-3) defeated Hawaii-Hilo, 6-1, yesterday.
SEA WARRIORS' WOMEN WIN
Hawaii Pacific and host Cal State Bakersfield advanced to today's championship match of the women's NCAA Division II West Regional with victories yesterday over UC Riverside and Sonoma State, respectively.The Sea Warriors beat UC Riverside, 5-1, and CS Bakersfield topped Sonoma State, 5-2.
