Moms board ‘Shanghai Express’

The Chinese Women's Club of Honolulu presents its annual fund-raiser fashion show Saturday in the Monarch Room of the Royal Hawaiian Hotel.

The event, themed "Shanghai Express ... to the Next Millennium," will feature the designs of Takeo and Eric Eugene Chandler.

Among the celebrity models will be Kelly Hu, the former Hawaii beauty queen who plays Grace Chen on the TV series "Martial Law," and Miss Hawaii Teen USA 1999 Aureana Tseu. Both will pay tribute to their mothers Juanita Hu-Takara and Iwalani Tseu. Hu will also have an autograph session in response to demand.

Takeo and Chandler will show garments from their recent Shanghai show, and present a segment entitled "Paris Noir," a preview of a collection they will show in Paris, London and Rome this summer.

And it wouldn't be a show for women if it didn't include a few good-looking men, such as modeling newcomer Jason Momoa.

The event will begin with boutique sales and the Chinese Women's Club "Country Store" opening at 9:30 a.m. Lunch will start at noon, followed by the fashion show.

The cost to attend is $40. For tickets and reservations, contact CWC chairperson Violet Tam at 737-9046.
