CB Bancshares banking on new CFO

Dean Hirata has joined CB Bancshares Inc. as its chief financial officer. He will oversee financial and regulatory reporting, internal reporting, asset and liability management, financial analyses, tax planning and compliance and general accounting.

Hirata also will serve as chief financial officer for CB Bancshares' two principal subsidiaries, City Bank and International Savings and Loan. "I look forward to dealing with the financial challenges faced by our company due to increased competition and the effects of a sluggish Hawaii economy," Hirata said. "It is imperative that we continue to control our expenses and to target those market niches that we can best serve to increase fee revenues."

He has 19 years in financial management and most recently was manager of the controller's division at First Hawaiian Bank. Hirata also was a senior manager with KPMG Peat Marwick. He earned a bachelor's degree in business administration from the University of Hawaii.
