UH scholar-athletes
to be honored

A total of 116 scholar-athletes from the University of Hawaii's 18 intercollegiate sports will be recognized next Tuesday at the annual UH Scholar-Athlete Breakfast at the Stan Sheriff Center.

A returning letter winner qualifies for recognition by receiving a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher, or with a 3.0 average during the spring, summer and fall semesters. Freshmen and transfer students qualify with a 3.5 or better GPA during their first year.

The football team led all programs with 16 athletes to be honored, followed by baseball (14), women's soccer (12) and softball (12).

The top scholar-athletes in each sport:

Lars Hansen (baseball, 3.73, psychology); BJ Itoman (women's basketball, 3.78, mathematics/exercise science); Robynn Kamidoi (cheerleading, 3.69, secondary education/Japanese); Adrianne Mundy (cross country, 3.47, biology); Dan Robinson (football, 3.69, biology); Van Wright (men's golf, 3.22, economics); Maria Voivie (women's golf, 3.68, art); Jeffery Nelson (coed sailing, 3.16, economics); and Malia Sharkey (women's sailing, 3.03, Russian).

Also: Camille Kalama (soccer, 3.84, geography); Kanani Bona (softball, 3.57, biology); Matthew Kwok (men's swimming and diving, 3.32, arts & sciences); Jamie Dvorak (women's swimming and diving, 3.59, political science); Jakob Nilsson (men's tennis, 3.86, arts & sciences); Amandeep Singh (men's tennis, 3.87, pre-business); Petra Holma (women's tennis, 3.80, psychology); Dejan Miladinovic (men's volleyball, 3.93, arts & sciences); Leah Karratti (women's volleyball, 3.58, elementary education/Hawaiian studies); Karin Umemura (water polo, 3.37, arts & sciences).

Wahine finish 10th

The Hawaii women's golf team placed 10th in the 11-team Western Athletic Conference championships that ended Tuesday at Livermore, Calif.

The Wahine had a team score of 332-335-328-985. Hawaii's Linda Appelblad shot a 79-79-79-237 and tied for 17th place.

UH hosts regatta

The Hawaii women's sailing team hosts the Pacific Intercollegiate Yacht Racing Association Women's Championships Saturday and Sunday at Keehi Lagoon.

Skippers Laura Rehg and Molly O'Bryan and crews Ursula Austin and Natalia Tangalin will be sailing for the Wahine, ranked No. 14.

Hawaiian Warriors tryout

The Hawaiian Warriors will hold a tryout camp for anyone interested in playing for the newly formed Asia Pacific Football League team from Hawaii.

Tryouts will be held at Aiea District Park on Sunday at 6:30 p.m. Call John Frederick (671-8213) for information.

The APFL inaugural game will be played Sept. 19 at Maui's War Memorial Stadium. Games are also scheduled for Hong Kong, Thailand and Tokyo.
