Wahine recruits
rank eighth

The incoming recruiting class for the University of Hawaii women's volleyball team was ranked eighth in the May edition of Volleyball magazine.

Incoming freshmen Jennifer Carey and Lily Kahumoku were selected to the magazine's Fab 50 list, which recognizes the country's top 50 high school seniors.

The magazine rated the 6-foot-1 Carey as the most accomplished setter in the country. She led Newport Harbor (Calif.) to the state title.

Kahumoku, the two-time state player of the year Hawaii, led Kamehameha to two state titles.

The magazine rated Stanford's class as No.1.

WAHINE GOLFERS 10TH

The Wahine golf team fell one spot to 10th after two rounds of the WAC golf championships in Livermore, Calif.

Hawaii has a team score of 657, 45 strokes behind Texas Christian.

Hawaii's top golfer, Linda Appelblad, is tied for 18th with a score of 158, 11 back of Brigham Young's Jamie Stevenson.

The 54-hole tourney ends today.
