Raising awareness
at Architects Hawaii

Architects Hawaii has promoted Matthew W. "Matt" Gilbertson to senior associate and part owner of the firm. He recently won a merit award from the International Association of Business Communicators for one of his editorials on the need for Hawaii to develop an enduring atmosphere rather than focus on theme experiences for tourists.

"In order to improve the community, we need to heighten everyone's awareness of quality architecture and quality urban spaces," Gilbertson said.

He has 12 years in architecture and joined Architects Hawaii in 1994. He came to Hawaii in 1990 and also worked for CDS International, and AM Partners. Gilbertson was national president of the American Institute of Architects Students, an advocacy group based in Washington, D.C. He also worked in Minneapolis and Salzburg, Austria. Gilbertson earned a master's degree in architecture from the University of Minnesota.
