Owls top Crusaders

Pinch-runner Reid Asato scored from second in the top of the seventh inning on Garret Kuwahara's two-out single to right field, knocking the ball out of catcher Joe Cabansag's glove in a collision at the plate to give Mid-Pacific (5-2) a 2-1 Interscholastic League of Honolulu baseball victory over St. Louis (4-3) yesterday at Ala Wai Field.

With the score tied, 1-1, pinch-hitter Bryan Tanabe was hit by a Brandon League pitch to start the seventh. Asato ran for Tanabe and was sacrificed to second by Dane Marcoullier. One out later, Kuwahara singled sharply to right. The throw home arrived before Asato, but he rammed into Cabansag and the ball popped loose.
