Fostering growth for HTDC

FRANK R. Fukunaga leads the state High Technology Development Corp. in its efforts to foster growth in the technology industry.

"What's satisfying is when we nurture a company (Digital Island Inc.) from a single person to a company that has raised $88 million to date," Fukunaga said.

"It started in our program and now is a major global corporation."

For eight years at the state corporation he helped develop the Hawaii Telecommunications & Information Resource Center, the Manoa Innovation Center, Kaimuki Technology Enterprise Center and Hawaii Software Service Center.

He has 24 years of experience in the computer industry working with high-technology companies in Southern California.

Fukunaga returned to Hawaii in 1989 after selling his software company, Data Technical Analysts, Inc., to McDonnell Douglas Corp.

He earned a bachelor's degree in business administration from the University of Hawaii.
