Tina Landon teaches master classes
for dancers this weekend.



Dance all day,
with the pros

Tina Landon, choreographer for Janet Jackson's "Velvet Rope" tour, is among dance world stars appearing at Expo Jamm, a dance extravaganza this weekend.

The Expo begins with a competition/showcase, 6:30 p.m. tomorrow in the Blaisdell Concert Hall. Forte and Chant will perform. Tickets are $10.

From 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, dancers may attend non-stop master classes with Landon and other choreographers in the Exhibition Hall. Workshop fees are $80 a day or $120 for both days; $20 a day to observe only.

Auditions for singing and dancing parts at Disney theme parks will take place 1-3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. No fees necessary.

Shen comes to Hawaii

Dancer-choreographer Shen Wei will be featured in a series of events over a two-month Hawaii residency sponsored by Dances We Dance Inc.

Shen, a former member of the Hunan Xiang Opera Company in China and a founding member of theGuangdong Modern Dance Company in China, is now a New-York based painter and free-lance dancer-choreographer.

Shen will present a lecture-performance 6:30 p.m. tomorrow at Kapiolani Community College Chapel, and a lecture and video presentation at noon Wednesday in Moore Hall 319, University of Hawaii at Manoa. Both presentations are free. He will conduct a master class in contemporary dance at 1 p.m. April 10 at the Silent Dance Center. The class fee is $9.

Tickets to "China Inside-out Dance," a dance concert choreographed and directed by Shen, are $16 for students, seniors and military, $19 general admission.

Ancient music, modern appeal

The six-woman Ensemble Galilei is returning to Hawaii for two concerts in April.

The chamber music group specializes in the ancient folk music and dance of the Celts, Scottish, Irish and Welsh; as well as playing Renaissance court music, Baroque airs and the chants of Hildegard von Bingen. Ensemble Galilei played to sell-out crowds in Hawaii in 1996.

The group performs April 17 at 7:30 p.m. and April 18 at 2:30 p.m. at the Sacred Hearts Academy Auditorium. Tickets are $20 general and $15 students.

Ensemble Galilei's Hawaii tour is being co-sponsored by The University of Hawaii at Manoa Outreach College and Sacred Hearts Academy.
