UH’s Degen
all-tourney selection

Hawaii's Dana Degen was named to the Bank of Hawaii Invitational all-tournament softball team after batting .333 for the Wahine.

Hawaii finished 2-1 in the tournament, which was rained out its final two days.

The Wahine, 17-9, fell out of the USA Today Top 25 poll.

Swimmers fare well

At Federal Way, Wash., Baldwin High's Cheyne Bloch won the 100-meter breaststroke event Friday at the Speedo Junior Champions West Regional swim meet at King County Aquatic Center.

Bloch, representing the Hawaii Swim Club, was timed in 56.24 seconds, a national senior qualifying time. On Thursday, Bloch placed second in the 200 breaststroke in 2:02.45, also a national qualifying time.

Hawaii Swim Club teammate Reece Kaya was 13th in the 200 butterfly while Caleb Rowe, also from HSC and Baldwin, finished eight in the 100 breast and 15th in the 200 breast.

In the women's competition, Kalaheo High's Michaela Keller placed 21st in the 200 butterfly and Punahou Aquatics teammate Stella Brinich finished 22nd in the 400 individual medley. The Punahou Aquatics 800 free relay team of Kristen. Simunovich, Sara Sakamoto, Keller and Brinich placed 37th overall.
