Marketing the SLICE
for Pacific Marine

Clyde Y. Shiraki is heading the marketing efforts for the high-speed SLICE vessel to government agencies for Pacific Marine & Supply Co. The $14.5 million SLICE ship is currently being evaluated in military exercises by the Marine Corps near San Diego.

He is based in Kauai and also will serve as maintenance supervisor for the Navatek II. "We're bringing the Navatek II to Kauai to operate out of Port Allen," Shiraki said. "It is better suited for the Kauai operations (in rough water)."

From 1974 to 1984, Shiraki worked for the federal government as a chief test engineer on submarine reactor plans, followed by 14 years with the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission. He joined Navatek in January this year. Shiraki is a graduate of Punahou School and earned a bachelor's degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He served three years as an officer in the Navy, including the Vietnam War.
