Wahine softball
team 6-5 winner

Dana Degen's three-run homer keyed a five-run first inning and the Hawaii softball team held off Eastern Illinois' comeback bid for a 6-5 victory last night in the first round of the Bank of Hawaii Invitational tournament at Rainbow Wahine Stadium.

Janelle Gonzales was the winning pitcher for UH (18-9) against Eastern Illinois (1-3).

Kaneohe advances to title game

Lance Watanabe hit two home runs and Ryan Fujitani, Ryan Matsuda and Robin Ho each had three of Kaneohe's 18 hits in a 14-4 victory over Sheridan last night that sent the winners into the title game of the Oahu Senior AJA baseball playoffs.

Two tennis wins for UH Wahine

No. 1 singles player Nina Wenger won two matches and teamed with No. 2 Suzie Saunders for two doubles victories as the Hawaii women's tennis team won twice in California yesterday, beating Cal State Northridge, 6-3,and Westmont, 9-0, to boost its season record to 10-5.

Hipwell triggers UH-Hilo sweep

Melanie Hipwell drove in all four Hawaii-Hilo runs in the first game and knocked in two more in the nightcap yesterday as the Vulcans (15-8) swept a softball doubleheader against Southern California College, 4-2 and 3-1, at the UHH field.

Seasiders take two

Moe Clarke circled the bases when her single went through the center fielder in the bottom of the seventh inning, giving BYU-Hawaii (11-13-1) a 5-4 victory over Park (Mo.) College after winning the opener, 9-1, in a softball doubleheader yesterday.
