Raylene Howard received another honor yesterday when the Wahine forward was named to the Kodak District VII All-America team selected by members of the Women's Basketball Coaches Association.

She is the third Hawaii player to be selected to a district team and the second to achieve the distinction as a junior.

Judy Mosley-McAfee was picked her junior year (1989) and again as a senior. Nani Cockett was named last year as a senior.

"It's very prestigious and obviously I feel good about it. But, without your mates, this wouldn't be possible, so it's a team thing. That's how I feel about it," Howard said.

Howard led Hawaii in scoring (553 points, 20.5 average), rebounds (206), field goals (184), field goals attempted (319), field goal percentage (.577), free throws (169) and free throws attempted (216).

The 5-foot-11 physical education major from Goulburn, New South Wales, Australia, was the Western Athletic Conference Pacific Division Player of the Year and earned division player of the week honors three times during the 1998-99 season.

Her field goal percentage was best in the WAC. She was third in scoring in the league, fourth in average rebounds per game and 10th in free throw percentage.

She scored in double figures and had 10 or more rebounds in seven games this past season.

As a district team member, she is eligible for inclusion on the national All-America team that will be announced at the women's final four later in March.

Other District VII members are Becky Harmon and Katie Cronin (Colorado State), Linda Froehlich (UNLV), Karlin Kennedy (SMU) and Linda Wayler (Montana).
