Star Markets Ltd. plans to open a 34,000-square-foot supermarket in the Ewa Beach Shopping Center by the end of this year.

Star's first West Oahu outlet, its 10th store, will replace a Foodland supermarket, but the Star Market will be about one-third bigger, company officials said.

The Estate of James Campbell, owner of the shopping center, is spending $1.3 million to renovate the center to coincide with the Star Market improvements. It also is lining up tenants for the center's former Woolworth store. Star said it will bring new services to the area, such as a seafood counter, a deli and a florist. The Ewa Beach Shopping Center, which now has 15 businesses in 77,000 square feet of space, opened in 1960. Foodland plans to leave in July, the estate said. Campbell Estate said the renovation includes a redesign of the facade and more parking.
