Principals of the Oahu Interscholastic Association met yesterday behind closed doors at Radford High School and voted on whether or not to participate in a state football tournament.

In an apparent violation of the state's open meeting law, the public school administrators met and voted inside the public school facility while media were forced to wait outside.

When OIA president Gary Griffiths emerged from the meeting, he would say only that a vote had been taken and that the result would not be revealed until Tuesday's meeting of the Hawaii High School Athletic Association executive board.

The HHSAA meeting at the International Ballroom (East Room) of the Pagoda Hotel is supposed to be the first open meeting ever held by the organization, which calls itself a nonprofit private corporation. It will begin at 10:30 a.m.
