AAA Hawaii has formed a strategic alliance with the state's second-largest automobile insurer, AIG Hawaii Insurance Co., that will widen the range of discount group policies available to AAA members. It also could mean lower rates in the future for existing holders of AAA group policies.

The new arrangement also means AAA members can pick up maps, make travel bookings and get other AAA services information in the AIG offices, or sign up for AIG insurance at the AAA office.

Those AAA members who already have AIG policies don't have to do anything, said Laura Gilchrist, AIG Hawaii's executive vice president for insurance. If they are due a rate reduction, it will be taken care of when their policies are renewed, she said.

As well as auto insurance, AIG also has motorcycle, homeowners, renters, watercraft, personal liability and business-commercial policies for AAA members.

The main AIG office at Six Waterfront Plaza has become a satellite AAA office. AIG also has offices in Pearl City and on the Big Island, Maui and Kauai.

The automobile association, with some 70,000 Hawaii members, has had a close relationship with AIG since 1994, when discount rates were first offered ot AAA members. AIG has some 70,000 policy holders in Hawaii.
