Game of the Week

Toots Minvielle Invitational
outrigger canoe regatta

Saturday, 8:30 a.m., Keehi Lagoon

In what could be a step toward a state high school championship, the Na Opio Canoe Racing Association is sponsoring the regatta named for the late founder of the Molokai Hoe.

Crews and individuals representing private and public schools and clubs will compete in O-1 and 0-6 races in half-mile (varsity) and quarter-mile (novice B, novice A and junior varsity). Over 1,000 paddlers are expected from Oahu, Maui, the Big Island, Kauai and Tahiti.

The event uses a format similar to that of the IPCF World Sprints in that crews are seeded in various heats en route to the finals.
