About the Aztecs: San Diego State has struggled this season, losing its first four matches before finally getting past UC San Diego (2-10, 0-1) in four last week ... Leading the Aztecs is former Rainbow Stolfus, who had 25 kills against the Tritons. Hunter had a monster night at the net, with two block solos and 10 block assists ... Also on the Aztec roster is former Rainbow Esteban Escobar, who has played in one match.
About the Rainbows: Coach Mike Wilton intends to use these two matches as a chance to work on some lineup combinations and solidify the passing situation ... Junior Russell Lockwood (6-0 swing) may have won a starting spot as the team's passer after a stellar performance (19 digs) against BYU ... Sophomore newcomer Brenton Davis (6-4 opposite) had a team-high 34 kills against BYU and is challenging sophomore Clay Stanley (6-8 opposite) for a starting role ... Sophomore Torry Tukuafu (6-6 swing) leads the team with 4.38 kpg and a .347 hitting percentage ... Against the Cougars, sophomore Dejan Miladinovic (6-7 middle) forgot his uniform and wore that of teammate Cory Kamana'o. The BYU statistician did not reflect the change in the boxscore, with Kamana'o getting credit for Miladinovic's 17 kills, 12 digs and 8 blocks.
