LavaNet selects new president

Yuka Nagashima takes the leadership at LavaNet Inc., replacing Clifton Royston who has stepped into a technical/systems role within the company.

Royston, who had been president since 1994, now has a direct role in the company's network planning.

"LavaNet emphasizes collaborative management, dynamic involvement of the staff and a 'can-do' attitude, all of which combine to create our award-winning Internet service," Nagashima said.

She has been with the company since its debut in 1994 and recently was vice president and technical support manager.

Nagashima was born in Japan, then was educated in Vancouver, Canada, and at Reed College in Portland, Ore.

She came to Hawaii in 1992 to take a job at Punahou School, where she taught physics for four years.
