Hawaii Economic Association
re-elects president

Harvey Shapiro has been re-elected president of the Hawaii Economic Association, a nonprofit organization of professionals from a broad spectrum of Hawaii businesses and organizations.

"We have our annual all-day conference on April 23 at the Hilton Hawaiian Village," Shapiro said. "My goal is to make it the best yet. The theme is growth industries for the next millennium."

Shapiro has 30 years in economic financial analysis, most recently as the research chief for the Honolulu Board of Realtors. He also worked 15 years at Oakland University in Rochester, Mich., where he held administrative roles and also taught computer statistics. Shapiro was a labor relations fact finder, mediator and arbitrator for the Michigan Employment Relations Commission for five years. Since coming to Hawaii in 1986, he has been on panels for the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service.
