Ex-Rainbow hopes to score
with Home Depot

Bill McKale, who played tight end for the University of Hawaii football team from 1978 to 1981, will become general manager of the first Home Depot store in Hawaii when it opens this fall in Iwilei. The large home improvement retailer also hired Kimo Cano as co-manager.

"The thing I remember most from the time I spent at the University of Hawaii is the warmth and openness of the people," McKale said. "I can't wait to show Hawaii residents what Home Depot is all about."

He has worked 15 years for Home Depot and currently is manager of the Tacoma, Wash., store. McKale will hire and train about 20 manager and 200 associates. McKale and Cano will spend several weeks on Oahu to recruit the management team for the five-month training program on the mainland. Home Depot, based in Atlanta, operates 759 stores in 44 states; five Canadian provinces; Puerto Rico and Chile.
