UH alums
spike Rainbows

Sven Hesse had 15 kills and Aaron Wilton added 14 as the alumni from the Hawaii men's volleyball team beat the varsity, 15-11, 12-15, 15-10, in an exhibition match at the Stan Sheriff Center last night.

A crowd of 5,784 watched the Rainbows have an edge in every statistical category over the alumni, from blocks (11-7) to kills (71-67) to aces (4-3). But the alumni hit .422 to the varsity's .261 in the deciding Game 3.

No. 5 Hawaii next takes on George Mason Wednesday and Friday at the Sheriff Center.

WATER POLO WIN FOR UH: The Hawaii women's water polo team defeated an alumnae squad, 13-7, in an exhibition game last night at the Duke Kahanamoku Pool.

No. 4 Hawaii (3-0) plays UC-San Diego tonight at 6 at the UH pool. San Diego, 0-1, opened its season Thursday with a loss to the Wahine.

ALUMS BEAT VULCANS IN BASEBALL: Craig Okita and Aaron Izu each had two hits and Kele Coloma hit a solo homer, helping the Hawaii-Hilo Alumni edge the current Vulcans, 7-6, last night on the Big Island.

Spencer Yates, Patrick Lynch and Layne Takahashi each had two hits for the Vulcans.

JONES, FREAS QB CLUB GUESTS: Hawaii football coach June Jones and his staff will join UH swimming coach Sam Freas on the speakers' dais at Monday's Honolulu Quarterback Club luncheon at the Pagoda Restaurant.

Lunch begins at 11:30 a.m. and the program follows.
